So you were wondering about limericks, eh? You've come to the right place. Assuming, that is, you were wondering about one of the following. If you weren't, I'm sure you can figure out how to email me.
You do know that (x) is pretty crappy, right?
Yeah, yeah. Some of them are less than stellar. They'll be fixed or replaced
when someone lets me know just how bad they are.
(x) doesn't rhyme even slightly with (y)
This is bound to be a problem when you're covering as many cities as the Global
Capital City Limerick Project aims to. If you see a really bad rhyme there, you
can assume that it's there because I've exhausted all possibilities. If you can
think of a better word, please let me know.
You missed <$capital>, the finest city on Earth!
Do you know how may capital cities there are on Earth? Neither do I. But it's
lots. If you're chafing at the absence of your own city, then drop me a mail and
I'll try and move it up the list. If you couldn't be arsed, then you're going to
have to wait.
I thought The Hague was the capital of Holland.
So did I. You live and learn. Apparently, the definition of a capital
isn't that it's the seat of government. Benin is in a similar
situation; Porto-Novo is the capital and Cotonou is the seat of government.
If you've
any idea about how a city becomes a capital, I'd appreciate a wee email.
What about Mexico? Isn't it Mexico City?
As far as I'm aware, it's offically called Mexico, but is commonly referred to
Mexico City to avoid confusion. Anyway, there are already to many capital cities
ending in 'City', so for the sake of variety I opted for the
differently-sounding one.
Can I submit limericks?
Initially, I was going to make this a free-for-all, but now that it's getting
interesting, I'm reluctant to share the fun. So I'll just thanks the Masked
Bastard for his contributions, and write the rest myself. Thank you, Masked
Bastard.
What's the deal with Minsk? It's not funny. And I'm pretty sure it was
gotten through chicanery.
I prefer 'research'.
Since when did Algiers rhyme with 'Mir'?
Interesting question; I'd assumed when I wrote this that Algiers, being a
former French colony, it was pronounced with a slient 'S'. Of course, it's
only been in French hands since 1830, and is much, much older (founded by the
Phoenecians in 1200BC, fact fans). So: dunno. Maybe it rhymes, maybe it
doesn't. If I find out for sure that the s is pronounced, I'll rewrite the
limerick. Happy?
